ODBD January 2014 Release

Happy New Year, everyone!  I'm not sure where 2013 went, but I'm looking forward to a wonderful 2014!  May you have a blessed new year as well!

To start off the new year, Our Daily Bread Designs has a gorgeous new release for you…five new stamp sets and one new die set perfect for gift giving and encouragement.  In addition, we are also featuring a stamp set and a die set previously released that coordinate with two of the new sets.

Once again, the design team has put together some gorgeous samples using the new sets.  To see these samples all in one place start at the Our Daily Bread Designs Blog.  Then to view the projects more closely and see more of the card details, click on each designer's blog link below. Leave comments as you visit each site because three winners will be randomly chosen from the comments left on the blogs to receive a $25 Gift Certificate to the ODBD Store to be used toward the purchase of ODBD stamps.  You have until January 2, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. EST to make your comments! The winners will be posted on the ODBD Blog on January 3rd, so be sure to check back there to see if you won!

Here is my first card made with the Apothecary Bottles and Joy in a Jar stamp sets and the coordinating Apothecary Bottles Dies:

Creative Nugget: The background on this card was created by inking up the Gingham Background with one color and stamping onto Solar Crest card stock.  The second color was stamped a little to the left and up to achieve the two-toned look.  The Spellbinder Heart Circle Die was cut out of this piece, then stitched back into place like the piece of a puzzle.  The label on the apothecary jar was cut with the Antique Labels & Border Dies which coordinate beautifully with these sets.  Some Fancy Foliage Dies and the corner from the Ornate Borders & Flower Dies were added to finish the card.

And here is my second sample made with the Lavender stamp set:

Creative Nugget:  The bottom of this card was cut and embossed with the Spellbinders A2 Scalloped Border Die.  The same die was used on the embossed Solar Crest layer and on the matching strip of Designer Paper.   Lace, pearls, and a layered bow were added to complete the vintage look.

Here are the stamp sets and dies from the ODBD Store used to make these samples:

Fruitful Blessings

Hello again, friends!  I just love a good sketch challenge...half of your planning is already done for you and it's a great source of inspiration.  This week Our Daily Bread Designs has a fabulous Shining the Light sketch challenge, so I decided to play along!

Creative Nugget:  I have been enjoying the new garden stamp sets released by ODBD this month.  For this card, the fruit baskets from the Garden Mini set were colored with Copic Markers, cut with a Classic Circle Nestie, and mounted on a Smokey Shadow Scalloped Circle after the piercing was done.  For the background, several of the Fancy Foliage flourishes were mounted to a Solar Crest panel and embedded with a Canvas Impression Plate...love this technique.  The Mint Julep DP by Webster's Pages was stitched to Smokey Shadow following the sketch.  Some seam binding was tied around the card front and some Fancy Foliage vines were added as accents.  The sentiment is from the Strawberries stamp set and was stamped directly on the DP.  I hope this card will be an encouragement to just the right person!

ODBD New August Release

Good morning friends and stampers!  The summer is slipping by so quickly...here it is the beginning of August already and time for another fabulous release by Our Daily Bread Designs!  If you are a gardener or like canning your favorite fruits and vegetables, this release is for you!  We have four wonderful new sets, four mini sets and two die sets for you this month!
Creative Nugget:  For my first sample, the strawberry from the new Garden Mini stamp set was randomly stamped on the background.  The scalloped borders were made with the A2 Scalloped Borders One dies by Spellbinders, a Canvas Impression Plate, and a CB Swiss Dots embossing folder.  The Elegant Oval was stamped in Real Red and cut with the ODBD matching Elegant Oval die with the smaller layers cut with the same die set. The scripture from Galatians is from the new Peaches stamp set. A gingham bow and a few fussy cut strawberries colored with Copic Markers were added to finish the card.
Creative Nugget:  My second project is a little table basket created from a pattern on the Technique Junkie Newsletter 3D and Fun Folds Paper Crafts CD.  The Romantic Floral Design frame was white embossed on Groovy Guava card stock and cut with the matching Labels Twenty-Six Die.  The focal image is from the new Peaches stamps set and was colored with Copic markers. The vine flourish you see was made by a fabulous new die set also being released this month by ODBD, Fancy Foliage.  A bow and a little tag was added to complete the basket.  This little table basket was filled with Ginger Peach Tea....yummmmm!  A little 3D peach and a napkin ring complete the table gift set!

Here are the new and some older supplies used for these projects available at the ODBD Store:

Kelley will be choosing one random winner from one of the designers blog comments to receive a $50 Gift Certificate to the ODBD Store to be used for the purchase of stamps.  You have until August 3, 2013 at 9:00pm EST to leave your comments on the designers blogs.  The winner will be posted on the ODBD Blog on August 4th, so be sure to check there to see if you have won!

ODBDSLC153 SPRING Word Challenge

Hello Friends!  It's Tuesday so I hope you are ready for a new Shining the Light Challenge.  It's finally beginning to feel like spring...at least in the northeast!   This week we are going to think Spring.  Maybe this will bring some of that spring-like weather to our friends in the mid west!

This week's challenge is:
Spring Word Challenge
Use four letters in the word Spring for your ingredients on your card or project.  Please write the letters and the items you used in your post.

Example: S-Scripture, P-Pearls, R-Ribbon, I-Ink, N-Nestabilities, G-Green

To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a PRIZE, a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs Store!!  Entries for the prize must be submitted by Sunday, May 12 at 8 p.m. EST.  One random winner will be chosen and announced with the next challenge.

While it is not required to use Our Daily Bread Designs images and sentiments, we would love to see them if you have them.  As a way of recognizing those who do use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, we will again be choosing three or more of our participants for the Shining the Light Award.  In order to qualify for this award, you must use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps and have your submission added to Mr. Linky by Sunday, May 5 at 8 p.m. EST.  If you upload your creation to Splitcoaststampers or any other online gallery, please use the keyword ODBDSLC152.  When creating your posts on blogs, please include a link to the challenge.  Thanks you!  We love seeing your creations!

This is how the word SPRING was used on my card:
S=Scripture/Stitching, P=Pearls, R=Ribbon, I=Insects/Ink, N=Notebook Paper, G=Green

Creative Nugget:  Papers from the Country Garden Paper Collection by Bo Bunny were stitched to True Black card stock and a Vintage Cream card base.  The panels were separated by a Fiskars Border Punch and some black wrinkled ribbon.  The sentiment from the Faith stamp set was stamped on a coordinating piece of DP and punched to make it look like a piece of notebook paper.  The butterfly branch from the Faith stamp set was stamped on Solar Crest paper, colored with Copic Markers, and cut with the matching Butterfly Branch Die.  A few pearls and a wrinkled ribbon bow finish the card which will be given to a friend of mine who is in the hospital.

Supplies used on this card that are available from Our Daily Bread Designs include the Faith stamp set and the Butterfly Branch Die.

I hope you will be able to join us this week for the SPRING Shining the Light Challenge at the Our Daily Bread Designs Blog.  If you need more ideas for using the letters in the word SPRING for the supplies on your card, check out my Challenge Team sisters.  They have created fabulous samples for your inspiration!

I had a lot of fun with this one!  Here is my card:

Our Daily Bread Designs, Faith, Apron & Tools Die Set

Creative Nugget:  I began by piecing 1 1/4" squares of patterned paper to a 5" square of card stock.  A zig-zag stitch was used to sew the pieces together after they had been tacked down.  The Apron & Tools Die set was used to cut the Apron.  The pockets and gardening tools were also cut with dies from the Apron & Tools Die set.  The pockets were embellished with piercing, seam binding, a button, and a mulberry rose...thanks, Sabrina!  Button twine was attached for the apron strings, and the apron popped onto layered DP and stitched to a Vintage Cream card base.  I found a little gardening tool in with my charms that I've had for years and had never used, so attached it to the corner of the card with some twine and seam binding.  The sentiment from the Faith stamp set was added to the large pocket to finish the card.

Here are the supplies from the Our Daily Bread Store used on this card:

ODBDSLC151 Cherish God's Nature

Hello friends!  Hope you are having a good week!  All of my major commitments have been completed, so I'm looking forward to slowing down a little bit this week, and getting several stamping projects finished.  I hope you'll be able to do the same, because it's Tuesday and time for another Shining the Light Challenge at the Our Daily Bread Designs Blog!

This week's challenge is:
Cherish God's Nature
Create a card or project with nature and scripture/spiritual quote.

To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a PRIZE, a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs Store!! Entries for the prize must be submitted by Sunday, April 28 at 8 p.m. EST.  One random winner will be chosen and announced before the next challenge.

While it is not required to use Our Daily Bread Designs images and sentiments on your creations, we would love to see them if you have them.  As a way of recognizing those who do use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, we will again be choosing three or more of our participants for the Shining the Light Award.  In order to qualify for this award, you must use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps and have your submission added to Mr. Linky by Sunday, April 28 at 8 p.m. EST.  If you upload your creation to Splitcoaststampers or any other online gallery, please use the keyword ODBDSLC151.  When creating your posts on blogs, please include a link to the challenge.  Thank you!

I have had the Simple Things stamp set for a while, but have never used it or the matching Clover Die.  This challenge provided the perfect opportunity to bring them both off the shelf!

Creative Nugget:  Basic Grey papers from the Lemonade collection were used to create the card front.  A Tim Holtz embossing folder was used on the yellow DP to make the honeycomb pattern.  Both of the coordinating papers were stitched to True Black card stock and mounted to a Vintage Cream card base. The scripture verse from the Faith stamp set was stamped, cut with a classic circle Nestie, and pierced before mounting it to a Lemonade classic circle, and then to a True Black Exquisite Circle Die.  The clover image from the Simple Things stamp set was stamped twice on Solar crest card stock, colored with Copic markers, and cut with the matching Clover Die.  Some Spring Mix Flower Soft was added to the clover flowers.  The bees and a pearl trail were added as well as a seam binding bow to finish the card.

The stamp sets used and the matching clover die is available at the Our Daily Bread Designs Store.

As always, my Sister Sticks have some amazing creations to share to inspire you!  Check them out and join the Shining the Light Challenge this week at the Our Daily Bread Designs Blog!

Other Than a Classic Square or Rectangle

To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a PRIZE, a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bead Designs Store!  Entries for the prize must be submitted by Sunday, April 14 at 8 p.m. EST.  One random winner will be announced next Saturday.

While it is not required to use Our Daily Bread Designs images and sentiments on your creations, we would love to see them if you have them.  As a way of recognizing those who do use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, we will again be choosing three or more of our participants for the Shining the Light Award.  In order to qualify for this award; however, you must use Our Daily Bread stamps and have your submission added to Mr. Linky by Sunday, April 14 at 8 p.m. EST. If you upload to Splitcoaststampers or any other online gallery, please use the keyword ODBDSLC149.  When creating your post on blogs, please include a link to the challenge.  Thank you!

I thought this week would be a perfect opportunity to try making a Diamond Origami Fold which was a new tutorial over at Splitcoaststampers.  I will say in advance that I apologize for the quality of the photos.  I must have taken a hundred photos and could not get the purples to look like they do in real life...the butterfly does actually match the flower on the inside!  LOL!  This first photo is the closed card and does appear to be a classic square card, but...

...when you open it up...

...it looks nothing like a square or a rectangle!

Creative Nugget:  The fun part began after creating the card following the directions on the tutorial.  (I did modify gluing the panels as I wanted to keep the sentiment diamond free, and did not glue it as suggested on the tutorial.)  A Fleur de Lis Square die was cut to fit the flap on the front of the folded card and a ribbon was tied around this panel as seen on the first photo.  The small diamond panels were made by layering Limeade Ice card stock and coordinating Bo Bunny DP.  The sentiment from the Scripture Series 3 stamp set was stamped right on the DP.  The Cheery Lynn Butterfly Die was attached to the other diamond with the wings free.  Black Pearls were added to the antenna and the body of the butterfly.  The newly released Hyacinth stamp set was used for the inside of the card.  The hyacinth was actually colored twice with Copic Markers and one cut out and popped on top of the other for dimension.  The same was done for the sentiment banner.  This was cut with a matching Labels 26 Die, mounted on Limeade Ice, and attached to another Fleur de Lis Square.  It's hard to see in the photos but several Cheery Lynn Fanciful Flourish Dies were attached to the side panels.  A few Black Pearls were added to finish the card.

These materials used on this card are available at the Our Daily Bread Designs store:

Since pussy willows are one of the first signs of spring, I used the Happy Spring stamp set for my sample.

Creative Nugget: Both the pussy willow and the sentiment were stamped with Tuxedo Black ink and cut with Labels Eight Dies and framed with Decorative Labels Eight Dies.  The pussy willows were colored with Copic Markers and both panels were sponged with a little Tattered Rose Distress Ink while still in the die.  The card front was made by stitching some elegant Graphs 45 papers to True Black card stock and mounted on a Vintage Cream card base.  A corner accent and pearls were used to finish the card.

Here is the Our Daily Bread Designs stamp set, Happy Spring, that was used for this card:

Here is my card for this week's sketch:

Creative Nugget:  I knew I wanted to use a scripture verse for the circle element on the sketch and ended up with this verse from Psalms from the Scripture Collection 2 stamp set.  It was stamped in Smokey Shadow ink, cut with a circle Nestie and mounted on a Lacey Circle.  The butterfly and chickory flowers from the Don't Worry stamp set were colored with Copic Markers and fussy cut to frame the verse along with a Cheery Lynn Fanciful Flourish die. An extra pair of  wings were colored, cut, and popped on top of the butterfly for dimension.  The banner element was hand cut, and the patterned papers stitched to Smokey Shadow card stock and mounted on a Vintage Cream card base.  A bow and a few pearls colored with a Copic Marker were added to finish the card.

The Stamp sets from Our Daily Bread Designs used to create this card are Scripture Collection 2 and Don't Worry!

Please take time to visit the super talented Sister Sticks for more wonderful inspiration!  I hope you will be able to play along with us this week.
