Birds of the Season

Hello friends!  For those in America....I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Not only do I have plenty of leftovers from our meal yesterday, but I also have lots of leftovers laying around on my craft desk.  The Ways To Use It Challenge on Splitcoaststampers yesterday was to use up some of those crafty leftovers...so, I put some of them to good use and finished a couple of Christmas cards featuring two birds of the season.

Creative Nugget:  My leftover scraps were turned into banners and stitched together to make the background for this Winter Chickadee.  The stamps, dies, and papers used are from Our Daily Bread Designs and include Winter Chickadee, Winter Cardinal, Holly Jolly Paper Collection, Pierced Rectangles, Double Stitched Circles, Circles, Pennant Flags and Double Stitched Pennant Flags.

Creative Nugget:  The Pine Branches, Pinecones, Pierced Oval and Snow Globe were all cut from leftovers laying an my desk. The cardinal colored with Copic Markers and greeting are both from the Winter Cardinal stamp set and the papers are from the Christmas Collection 2017.

These cards will be submitted for the following challenges:

Looking Back at the ODBD November 2017 Release

Hello friends!  Today we are taking another look at the Our Daily Bread Designs November 2017 Release.  Get ready to see more wonderful winter and Christmas projects created by the Breadstick Designers using stamps and dies released this month.

My first sample is a bridge fold card using the Winter Cardinal stamp set.

Creative Nugget:  The panels on the bridge card base were lined with papers from the Christmas Collection 2017 Paper Pad.  The Winter Cardinal image was colored with Copic Markers.  Rounded Rectangle Dies and the Double Stitched Rounded Rectangle Dies were used to cut out the cardinal and the mat.  The bridge was made using the Curvy Slopes Dies.  The Trees and Deer Dies were used to complete the winter scene.  A sentiment from the Winter Cardinal set was also cut and matted with Rounded Rectangle and Double Stitched Rounded Rectangle die cuts.

My second sample is a Christmas card using new dies from the November release.

Creative Nugget:  Curvy Slopes were cut from papers in the Christmas Collection 2017 Paper Pad and used at the bottom of the card base which was cut with a Pierced Rectangle Die.  Three trees from the Trees and Deer Dies were used to cut trees from another panel also cut with a Pierced Rectangle Die.  This panel was mounted to  paper from the Christmas Collection 2017 so that the paper showed through the tree cut outs.  Two of the trees that were cut out of the panel were then popped onto the front of the card using foam tape for dimension.  The deer were added as well as a corner accent cut with the Pine Branches Die.  The sentiment is from the Winter Chickadee stamp set and was embossed in the upper corner to finish the card.

ODBD Card Caddy & Gift Bag Pre-Order Bundle

Hello friends!  To help you get a jump start on your Christmas and holiday gift giving, Our Daily Bread Designs is offering a Pre-Order Bundle filled with products that will be released on December 1st!  The Card Caddy & Gift Bag Pre-Order Bundle includes the Card Caddy & Gift Bag Dies, Gift Bag Handles & Toppers Dies, Poinsettia Inset Die, and a BONUS $5.00 ODBD Gift Code.  This special Pre-Order Bundle is shipping immediately, and available for purchase now through November 20th, 2017.

I used some of the dies in the Bundle to make gift bags that will be used as table decorations for family and friends at our Thanksgiving table.

Creative Nugget:  The inset die that comes with the Card Caddy & Gift Bag Dies was used to create the bag.  Paper from the Follow the Sun Collection was layered behind the inset.  Handles & Toppers Dies were used to form the handles and topper for my bag.  The tag was actually made with the handles that were cut from the topper and a sentiment from the Thankful Song stamp set.  Oxide inks were used to color the leaves cut with the Stitched Leaves Dies.

The supplies used to make this gift bag are available at Our Daily Bread Designs.

Peaceful Sympathy

Hello friends!  Today I am sharing several cards on the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Blog and thought I would share one of them here.

Creative Nugget:  A stencil mono printing technique found  on Karen Dunbrook's Blog was used as the inspiration for the background in the left corner.  Oxide inks were applied to the back of a stencil, spritzed with water and pressed onto a heavy piece of card stock.  Several prints, each getting a little lighter, were obtained by continuing to spritz and press onto different pieces of card stock.  More colors were added by turning the stencil slightly as each layer was added.  The same Oxide Ink colors used for the mono printing were applied to my craft mat and spritzed with water.  The craft mat was then used as a stamp pad to apply ink to a peony stamp which was used to randomly stamp another piece of card stock.  A sentiment was very lightly stamped over the flowers to finish the background.  The inks on the craft mat also became a paint palette for watercoloring the focal image.  The sympathy greeting was white embossed on a cut vellum banner and stitched to the card.  The design of the card came from Freshly Made Sketches.

These stamp sets from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps were used for the card above:

Hello friends!  Just finished another Christmas card using new stamps and dies from Our Daily Bread Designs and the current Freshly Made Sketches #311.

Creative Nugget:  I'm having so much fun coloring up this adorable Snowman Family with Copic Markers.  The inset image is framed with Kraft card stock and papers from the Christmas 2014 Collection.  The Snow Crystal die cut was covered with VersaMark ink and embossed with Clear Sparkle Embossing Powder and a clear Nuvo Crystal Drop was added to the center. Other ODBD Custom dies used include Pierced Rectangles, Double Stitched Rectangles, Ovals, and Pierced Ovals.

So Thankful

Hello friends!  How often do you use other artists to inspire you?  Today on the "Ways to Use It" Challenge on Splitcoaststampers, we are taking a card from our Favorites Gallery and using it to inspire our own version of the card.  Karen Dunbrook's masterful backgrounds always inspire me, so of course I used one of her cards, Monoprinting and Flowers, to inspire mine.

Creative Nugget:  The background is a monoprint made with a stencil and Distress Oxide Inks.  Apply ink to the back of a stencil, spritz with water, and with the ink side down, press onto a piece of heavy card stock.   The background used here is actually the second printing and the stencil was turned and applied again to achieve the water colored panel.  The Typewriter Text Background stamp from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps was randomly stamped on the background before the silhouettes and sentiment were stamped using Versafine Onyx Black ink.  So Thankful was white embossed on a hand cut flag to finish the card.  The other Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps used are Nature Silhouettes, Faith Quote Blocks, and So Grateful.

Be sure to check out all of the fun ways Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps with be celebrating their 10th birthday this month.  Just click on the graphic to see all the details and fun giveaways!

My first sample was made with the new Winter Chickadee stamp set.

Creative Nugget: A sentiment from the Winter Chickadee set was white embossed on a piece of Kraft card stock cut with a Pierced Rectangle Die.  This panel was splattered with white acrylic paint.  Two panels of paper from the Christmas 2017 Collection were also cut with the Pierced Rectangle Dies and mounted to the Kraft layer.  The Winter Chickadee was colored with Copic Markers, cut with a Pierced Circle Die, and matted with paper cut with a Circle Die. The Pinecones Dies and Pine Branches Dies were used to cut a pine spray which was tied to the card with jute twine.  Frosting Powder was added to give a little sparkle to the snow on the branch.

My second sample uses the Snowman Family stamp set and the Snow Globe Die.

Creative Nugget:  Paper from the Christmas 2017 Collection was cut with a  Pierced Rectangle Die and a Pierced Circle Die.  The Snow Globe was also cut from paper from the Christmas 2017 Collection.  Two snow drifts were cut with the Curvy Slopes Dies. One drift was adhered to the front of the card.  The Snow Globe was added next, and finally the second drift was added.  A piece of acetate was glued to the back of the front panel.  The Snowman Family was stamped to another piece of card stock and colored with Copic Markers.  A double layer of foam tape holds the two layers together with sequins and seed beads sandwiched between.  The Trees and Deer Dies were used to cut two pine trees which were sponged and covered with Frosting Powder before adding them to the front of the card.  The sentiment from the Snowman Family stamp set was stamped on an oval cut with a Pierced Oval Die and mounted to an Oval die cut. to finish the card.
