Heat it Up

Hello friends!  Hope you've been staying cool, but today on the Splitcoaststampers "Ways to Use It" Challenge, Lisa encouraged us to heat it up, so off to the tropics with some hot colors and heat embossing we go using stamps and dies from Our Daily Bread Designs.

Creative Nugget:  Distress Oxide inks were sponged onto a mixed media panel cut with a Pierced Rectangle Die creating an ombre look.  This panel was embossed with the Lattice Background Die and cut apart to form the background.  The matting layers and the Ferns were cut from papers from the Beautiful Boho and Boho Bolds paper collections.  The split sentiment from the Tickled Pink stamp set was embossed and the flamingo colored with Copic Markers and cut with the coordinating Flamingos Dies.  Hibiscus Dies were used to make the flower and a little Frosting Powder was added for some sparkle along with a scattering of sequins.

The second tropical scene used the Bon Voyage stamp set.

Creative Nugget:  Distress Oxide inks were again sponged onto a mixed media panel creating a sunset.  The Bon Voyage silhouette was stamped with Archival ink and stamped again onto a piece of acetate to reverse the image for the reflection.  A white frame cut with Double Stitched Rectangle Dies was added over the scene after white embossing the sentiment.  Hibiscus and Ferns Dies were used to create the corner embellishment.

Sweet Baby

Hello friends!  The Technique Challenge on Splitcoaststampers for today is way too much fun...use bubble wrap to create a background.  Out came the Oxide Inks and I now have about twenty backgrounds in many different colors added my stash to be used for future projects!  One of the backgrounds was perfect for a baby card that I needed to make.

Creative Nugget:  The bubble wrap was taped around an acrylic block for easy application.  Salty Ocean and Wild Honey Distress Oxide Inks were dabbed on, spritzed with water and stamped onto a pierced square panel of Bristol card stock.  The cute images from the Stand Tall stamp set by Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps were cut with a Scan 'n Cut and colored with Copic Markers.  The sentiment from the Little One set was stamped using the Misti Tool.  The design for this card came from the Freshly Made Sketch Challenge.  I'll be sending this to a friend from church who just had a precious little baby boy!

You Are My Sunshine

Aloha, everyone!  Since the weather has been hot and steamy lately, it's off to the tropics with a card using this week's sketch on Splitcoaststampers and some of this month's stamps and dies from Our Daily Bread Designs.

Creative nugget:  Papers from the Boho Bolds and Cozy Quilt Collections were used on the card front.  Wild Honey Oxide Ink was sponged on the Sunburst Background and on the Double Stitched Circle panel.  Real stitching was added to the diagonal strip to carry through on the stitched element from the cut panels.  The Bird of Paradise from the Aloha stamp set from ODBD was colored with Copic Markers and cut with the coordinating Bird of Paradise Die.  A few Tropical Leaves and sequins were added to finish the card.

This card will be submitted for the following challenges:

Sweet Words

Hello friends!  Today I am sharing two cards on the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Blog and thought I'd post here as well.  The same two stamp sets from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps were used for both cards, Sweet as Honey and Scribble Flowers.  I recently watched a demonstration using a two-step stamp set that resulted in a pretty watercolored look and wanted to achieve the same look using a stamp set not designed for two-step stamping.

Creative Nugget:  To create the watercolored frame, attach a flower stamp upside down on an acrylic block and paint color burst on the back of the stamp.  Give it a little spritz of water and stamp onto heavy card stock.   Bristol board was used here but water color paper or mixed media paper would also work.  If you do not have Color Burst, use any water based marker like Tombows to color on the back of the stamp and give it a spritz of water.  Clean the stamp and continue to randomly stamp flowers around the panel.  It might look a little messy, but just wait until the next step!  When completely dry, turn the stamp right side up on the block and emboss the flower outline over the watercolored flowers.  Now it's lookin' good!  A little swirly flower was used to fill in the gaps and a little messy stitching was added to the frame.  Color Burst was painted on the honeycomb stamp from the Sweet as Honey set, stamped on a separate panel, and spritzed with water to lighten.  The frame was popped up onto this panel using foam tape.  The sentiments, bees and sequins were added to finish the card.  The design for this card came from the Freshly Made Sketch for this week.

The second card uses the same two stamp sets but with a different look.

Creative Nugget:  Distress Oxide inks were sponged onto white Neenah card stock and over stamped with the honeycomb.  The Honeycomb was also stamped on a plain white panel and spritzed with watered down oxide ink.  The panels were cut with curvy edges and stitched together to make the base for the card.  The bees and flower were colored with Copic Markers and popped onto the card.  The sentiment was stamped twice, once on the card and once on scrap card stock in a different color so parts could be cut apart and added for contrast.  A few sequins were added to finish the card!

These cards will be submitted for the following challenges:

Thanks so much for stopping by...hope you were inspired!

Looking Back at the ODBD July 2017 Release

Hello friends!  Today we are taking another look at the Our Daily Bread Designs July 2017 Release!  For my sample I decided to create a tropical paradise.

Creative Nugget:  I recently purchased some of the new Color Burst colors which are beautiful and used them to watercolor a background for the island image in the Bon Voyage stamp set. The watercolored and stamped panels were cut to fit two parts of the Double Z card base.  Paper from the Boho Bolds Paper Pad was used for the third panel.  The Bird of Paradise flower from the Aloha stamp set was stamped three times, colored with Copic Markers and cut with the coordinating Bird of Paradise Die.  These flowers along with cut outs using the Frangipani Dies, Fern Dies, and Tropical Leaves Dies were used to create the border along the bottom of the card.

Sentiments from the Aloha stamp set were added to two of the panels and cut with a Mini Labels Die and a Pennant Flag Die. Pearls were used in the centers of the Frangipani flowers to finish the card.  Now...don't you wish you were there right now?

My first sample was made using the adorable new Ticked Pink stamp set and papers from the Boho Bolds Paper Pad.

Creative Nugget:  Papers from the Boho Bolds Paper Pad were stitched to black card stock for the background.  Flamingos from the Tickled Pink stamp set were randomly stamped in pink ink on the second panel and then embossed with the Boho Backgrounds Die.  The flamingos on the circle panel were colored with Copic Markers and the sentiment was stamped on a vellum banner.  The ODBD Custom dies used to cut the different layers include the Pierced Rectangles, Pierced Circles, Circles, and Pennant Flags.  Black pearls and Bakers Twine were added to finish the card.

My second sample uses the beautiful new Bon Voyage stamp set.

Creative Nugget:  The background scene was masked and sponged with Distress Inks before stamping the island silhouettes from the Bon Voyage set with Jet Black Archival ink. Paper from the Boho Bolds Paper Pad was used to mat the sponged panel.  An aperture was cut from the white panel and popped up with foam tape.  The new Frangipani Dies and Fern Dies were used to make the flowers framing the image.  Part of the sentiment was white embossed and part was stamped with black ink directly on the card front.  Other ODBD Custom Dies used include the Pierced Rectangles, Double Stitched Circles, and Circles.  Pearls were added to the centers of the frangipani flowers and to accent the image.
