Take Another Look at the ODBD August 2016 Mid-Month Release

Hello friends!  Today we are taking another look at the Our Daily Bread Designs August 2016 Mid-Month Release!  We will soon be saying good-bye to sweet summer, but let's just hold onto it for a bit longer.

My first sample was made with the new By the Sea and Rope Background stamp sets.

Creative Nugget:  A "Wrinkle Free Distress panel was lightly stamped with the Rope Background, an embossed sentiment, and the pelican from the By the Sea stamp set.  A window was made using the Circle and Pierced Circle Dies so that The Waves on the Sea sailing image stamped on paper from the By the Shore Collection could be seen.  A bow made with twine was added.  The pelican was stamped again, colored with Copic Markers, fussy cut, and popped onto the card.

My second sample was made using the Sending You Sunshine stamp set.

Creative Nugget:  Layers of papers from the Nautical Collection were cut with Pierced RectanglesPierced Squaresand a Leafy Edged Borders Die…perfect for creating waves, and matted with red card stock.  The sentiment from the Sending You Sunshine stamp set was embossed on one of the papers as well and cut with Pierced Circle and Circle Dies. The sandcastle was colored with Copic Markers, cut with the coordinating Sandcastle Die, and popped onto the card.  Sparkle, hard to see in the photo, was added to the sand with a Wink of Stella Pen.  Jute twine and enamel dots were added to finish the card.

My Prince

Good morning, friends!  Did you know that today is National Kiss and Make Up Day?  Who would ever think...I guess we need a day to celebrate everything and anything!  Any way…that is the inspiration behind the "Ways to Use It Challenge" today at Splitcoaststampers and this silly but fun card is my submission for the challenge (and a few others).

Creative Nugget: The design for my card is from the challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  X's and O's from the Love Ya Like a Sister Alpha from SNSS were white embossed on mixed media paper and water colored over with Inktense Color Blocks to make the background.  The smaller square panel was sponged with Distress Inks and stamped repeatedly with hugs & kisses from the Mini Tags & Sentiments set.  The frogs from Birthday Pals were stamped, colored with Copic Markers, cut with the matching Birthday Pals Dies, dressed, and popped onto the card.  The sentiment was pieced together from the Words of Life: Common Words 1 and Name Above All Names sets.  Glossy Accents and a few Dew Drops were added to finish the card.
This card will be submitted for the following challenges:

Thanks so much for stopping by!  How will you celebrate Kiss and Make Up Day?

90 Years Old!

Hello friends!  I have two cards to share today.  This month my uncle celebrated his 90th birthday.  Can you imagine all of the changes he has lived through?  He still loves the outdoors and golfing, and he and my aunt still make the long drive down to Florida several times a year.

Creative Nugget:  The design for this card was taken from one of the Dare to Get Dirty challenges on Splitcoaststampers.  True Black card stock and paper from the Christmas 2015 Paper Collection was used for the card front.  Color Burst pigments were used to color mixed media card stock which was overstamped with the Wood Background stamp by ODBD and impressed with a wood pattern.  A Vintage Label Die and a Vintage Border Die were used to cut a recessed frame for the woodpecker from the new Woodpecker stamp set released by ODBD this month.  Copic Markers were used to color the woodpecker.  The sentiment was white embossed on a scrap of leftover wood stamped paper. Finally, the 90th was cut using the Numbers Dies, twine was tied around, and pearls added to finish the card.

My second card is a sample for the Sketch Challenge today on Splitcoaststampers.
Creative Nugget:  All of the papers and dies used are available from the Our Daily Bread Designs Store.  The papers used are from the Americana Quilt Collection and the Old Glory Paper Pad. Borders were cut using the Flower Lattice Die.  Pierced Rectangles Dies were used to cut all of the rectangular panels. The sentiment comes from the new Thanks for Everything Stamp/Die Duo.  Fancy Foliage Dies, Bitty Blossoms Dies, and Pretty Posies Dies were used to cut the floral accents.

These cards will be submitted for the following challenges:
Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge - SC607
Crafting From the Heart Challenge #124 - Anything Goes
Craftyhazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge - August 2016
Love to Scrap Challenge Blog #84 - Anything Goes

Thanks so much for stopping by - have a blessed day!

Birthday Fishes

Hello again!  WOW…two cards in one day!  Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps is adding an adorable new stamp set to the store today, Birthday Pals!  These cute critters are perfect for sending happy birthday wishes that are sure to make you smile.

Creative Nugget:  See what I mean!  I had so much fun with this shaker card for my grand-niece.  The front of the card was made with Color Burst pigment powders, a wave stencil, and the Salt Technique.  The sentiment was embossed with Liquid Platinum powder and a few leaves from Scribble Flowers were added to the back panel to look like seaweed.  Woooo-Hooo…matching Birthday Pals Dies were used to cut the fish which were stamped and colored with Copic Markers.  The Reflection Technique was used to make one of the fish facing the opposite direction. Metallic thread was used for the balloon string instead of the stamped string and was tied to the fish's tail.  Sequins and seed beads were added to the inside of the shaker, Glossy Accents applied to the balloon, and lots of shimmer added with Wink of Stella to finish the card.

Looking Back at the ODBD August 2016 Release

Hello friends!  Today we are taking another look at the Our Daily Bread Designs August 2016 Release.  My sister Bread Sticks have made some gorgeous samples for you inspired by the beauty in nature.

My sample was made with the new Vintage Bird Labels stamp set.

Creative Nugget:  The frame and mats for my card were cut with the Flourished Star Pattern Die, Pierced Rectangles Dies, and Double Stitched Rectangles Dies.  Three Trellis Strips were cut, embossed, sponged, and adhered to the inside of the frame.  The frame was mounted to a mixed media panel that was water colored with distress inks.  The largest Vintage Bird Label was brayered with ink from a Melon Melody Kaleidacolor pad (WOW…haven't used one of those in ages), and cut with the matching Vintage Labels Die.  The embossed sentiment was cut with an Ornate Ovals Die, popped on a black Oval, and mounted to the card.  Butterfly & Bugs stamps and coordinating Butterfly & Bugs Dies as well as a Fancy Foliage Die were used to cut accents from a piece of Neenah card stock that had been brayered with the Melon Melody colors.  A little bow made with metallic thread and black pearls were added to finish the card.

Praise Him

Hello friends!  Today I am sharing on the Creative Worship Blog and thought I would share here as well.

Inspirational Nugget:  How many ways can you think of to praise the Lord?  Psalm 150 lists several ways to praise the Lord, but you can probably think of more.  Praising the Lord invites His presence into our circumstances AND in His presence is fullness of joy…doubt, worries, and fear flee!  Chains and bonds are broken just as they were for Paul and Silas.  No matter what you are going through, the Lord is worthy of praise…
                               "His grace saves us,
                                        His mercy spares us,
                                               and His love pardons us!"
(from a morning and evening devotional)
Creative Nugget:  I've been wanting to try using Color Burst pigment powders on a Bible Journaling page and finally decided to just do it!  I did prep the page three times with Dina Wakley Clear Gesso since the page was going to get pretty wet.  First a section of the page was masked off so the music background from the new Music to My Ears stamp set could be clear embossed in the middle.  Then the magic…sprinkle on the powders (I used yellow, tangerine, fuchsia, and crimson) and squirt with water.  A roll of paper towels helped to soak up the extra water and each color was dried before applying the next color.  There was NO bleed through!  A little sponging helped the embossing show up a little better.  Elements from the I Am Loved, Seek Him, and Note This stamp sets were added to the page along with some hand lettering and a few more notes from the Music to My Ears stamp set.

Here are the stamp sets from the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Store used for this page:

"Guard your heart from fear at night by singing praises to your King!"

Thanks so much for stopping by…

Cathy

ODBD August 2016 Mid-Month Release

Hello friends!  Welcome to the Our Daily Bread Designs August 2016 Mid-Month Release!

Three randomly selected winners will each receive a $25 gift certificate to the ODBD Store to be used toward the purchase of ODBD Stamps found in the "stamps column" of the website just for commenting on the Design Team cards!  You have until August 18, 2016 at 9:00 p.m. EDT to leave your comments on the Designers' Blogs for a chance to win!  The Winners will be posted on the ODBD Blog on August 19th, so be sure to check back there to see if you won!

My first sample was made using the Sending You Sunshine stamp set.
Creative Nugget:  The design for this card came from the Sketch Challenge on Splitcoaststampers.  The curves on all of the panels were cut with the Leafy Edge Borders Dies.  The middle and bottom layers were cut from papers from the new  By the Shore Collection.  The top layer was a mixed media scrap from my stash and was cut and embossed with the Sunburst Background Die. While the card stock was still in the die, Color Burst pigments were sprinkled on, spritzed with water, and dried with a heat tool. Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink was then sponged on the sun rays to brighten them up a little.  The clouds were cut with the Clouds & Raindrops Dies, and the sentiment was embossed on one of the clouds.  The sandcastle from the new Sending You Sunshine stamp set was colored with Copic Markers and cut with the coordinating Sandcastle Die.  Some sand and small shells were added for texture and a jute twine bow attached to finish the card.

My second card was made with the new By the Sea and Rope Background stamp sets.
Creative Nugget:   The panels of this Center Step Card were layered with blue card stock and papers from the new By the Shore Paper Collection.  The Rope Background was white embossed on mixed media paper, water colored with distress inks, and cut to fit the side panels.   Copic Markers were used to add a horizon to the DP and the edges were pierced with one of the Pierced Rectangles Dies.  The pelican from the By the Sea stamp set was stamped right on the DP and again on a piece of Neenah card stock.  This second pelican was colored with Copic Markers, fussy cut, and popped onto the center panel of the card. A sentiment was embossed on a hand cut banner.  Cheesecloth was dyed and tucked behind the sand dune cut with the Leafy Edged Borders Die across the bottom of the card.  Some glittery enamel dots were colored and stuck to the card for a finishing touch.
